"A very pleasant experience, just the way..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

What I liked

Excellent, respectful treatment by the whole team on D42 and orthopaedic theatre.

The teams seemed to operate as one in a calm, controlled way in spite of sometimes very demanding, stressful and busy circumstances.

Selection, quantity and quality of food was excellent.

Ward management was very effective but also very relaxed and it was quite obviously respected by the staff.

What could be improved

Ventilation was very poor and air-conditioning non-existent which resulted in no control over room temperature for staff and patients - this was in May and it was very warm and stuffy, which made it tiresome - cannot imagine what it must be like in the summer heat.

In this day and age it is an expectation that temperature and ventilation control must always be possible (health and safety?)

Anything else?

Multi-positional beds are really good and it is always possible to find the best position.
