"I think Guernsey House should have a walk in clinic"

About: Guernsey House / Primary care addiction service Sheffield (PCASS)

(as a service user),

I think Guernsey house are generally very good but I always have to wait to be seen. I think they could operate a walk in centre instead of making appointments. Appointment times might be suitable for doctors but they might not suitable for the patient. If guernsey house was a walk in centre people would be able to come in when they need to. I think this will also help to reduce appointment cancellations as sometimes people don't have the money to phone up and cancel.

Thank you for posting about your experience at Guernsey House.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had to wait to be seen when you have attended a booked appointment.

We do our very best to keep to the appointment schedule and to keep waiting times to a minimum but there are times when a client has particular needs that mean their appointment goes over their allocated time.

We ask all of our clients and staff to be understanding about this.

You can avoid this type of delay by booking into one of the first appointment slots of the clinic session (morning or afternoon).

We don't operate a walk-in clinic as we need to be able to plan clients' appointments to tie in the with their prescriptions and the medical reviews that we must provide within a strict timeframe because of the type of treatment we provide. We do, however, operate a 'duty' system where a nurse is designated to deal with emergency phonecalls and clients who come into the clinic in person with a problem that cannot wait for the next available appointment.

We have recently made a significant increase in the number of appointments available in the afternoons and we anticipate that this will ease the pressure on all of our clinic sessions and we will be able to offer double appointments for clients who need to discuss complex issues with their doctor. We also offer appointment slots at times from 9am to 6pm and on Saturday mornings, at Guernsey House and at two other locations ('satellite clinics') in order to make our appointments more suitable for clients.

I hope you will notice an improvement in waiting times at Guernsey House, please post again to let us know.
