About: Samuel Johnson Community Hospital

Anything else?

I brought my 82 yr old father into the hospital as he can hardly walk. I was wrongly under the impression that being able to walk was a basic healthcare necessity, obviously not! I was told by the nurse that 'if he was my father, I would pay £25 for him to see a private chirodopist.' Her comments were both unprofessional and judgemental. She hadn't even looked at his feet at this point. I fail to see how 'what she would do if it were her father' has any relevance to my father's situation and think it is entirely inappropriate for her to talk to me in this way. We left the hospital with my father hobbling and with an infection in his foot. The nurse was condescending. If we had been told that an option would be for him to see a private chiropodist, I might not feel so offended; but to be judged by the nurse who has absolutely no knowledge of me and my economic situation was entirely wrong. How dare she tell me I should pay for my father's healthcare in a judgemental holier than thou manner! His feet are in an absolutely appalling state and it is unlikely that a chiropodist will do anything but refer him for a hospital appoitment anyway. He has paid into the system his whole life and when he needs medical intervention to help him to walk he can't get it.
