What I liked
My father was admitted to the Medical Admissions Unit following a chest infection that occurred while he was undergoing chemotherapy last month. The staff were absolutely fantastic, cheerful, calm, knowledgeable and reassuring. A full range of tests were done and the results received within a couple of hours and medication started. We'd forgotten the spongebag in the rush to come in but this was no problem as the nurse gave us a little pack containing toiletries, ear plugs and even an eye mask in case the ward lights kept him awake! The ward was absolutely spotless, attention was paid to ensuring each patient on the unit got something they would like to eat and even the family were offered tea and coffee if we were visiting when the drinks trolley was going round! The only complaints I would offer about this hospital is that parking can sometimes be difficult at the Christie and the shop seems to be open for very restricted hours but I highly commend the Medical Admissions Unit. We've been in twice since the first admission and each time we've received the same impressive level of care and service. If I were to offer one suggestion for improvement it would be that occasionally my dad was unsure when his treatments were happening or what the drug he was being given was so possibly a bit more information about treatments to the patient would be good but it's a minor issue compared to the good points that the unit has.
"Parking isn't great but the hospital..."
