"Visit to Cumberland infirmary for op"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Ear, Nose and Throat

Worst day to visit Cumberland infirmary for an op 28th feb road to Carlisle almost blocked with snow, not a good start. 6 inches at Carlisle when we arrived. Arrived at 7.30am for pre op reviews, concerned staff might not have made it in but advised op going ahead.

Clearly made aware of staff issues due to weather.

Got in to op at 12noon 4.5 hours later but can not complain every one was very professional and calm/controlled/ordered in what they did.

I felt as if i was in the middle of a totally professional team even with potential staff shortages.

I counted the contact stages - 1. reception 2. nurse 3. registrar 4. Anethatist 5. Transfer nurse. 6. Surgery nurse. 7. Surgeon 8. Anethatist 9. Op. 10. Recovery nurse. 11. Transfer nurse & porter 12. Ward nurse. 13. Registrar 14. Ward nurse checkout....Very secure, checking details at every stage....

Op went successful which is a big tick for the infirmary. Nursing staff again short, due the weather, Ward nurse very attentive once they understood my issues. A very special thanks to the staff at the Cumberland infirmary for a very professional job.....ward nurse was from west of the county no names but a box of chocs going her way when i recover and make it back to Carlisle

10 out of 10 for my experience on the day accepting the delays. ....

Many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on the NHS choices website following your recent visit to the Cumberland Infirmary.

The weather has given us some challenges this week and I am pleased that your treatment was able to go ahead and delighted that you felt so well looked after even though staffing was not at its optimum levels. I will pass on your comments to the team concerned who always enjoy getting feedback from their patients as they work really hard to deliver the best possible care at all times.

With best wishes for your continued recovery

Georgia Wright - Head of Nursing Patient Experience and Engagement
