What I liked
Due to a shortage of beds I spent the whole of my stay in HDU - [6 nights]. However, I was totally impressed with the nursing care and attention afforded to me during my stay.
I cannot award any less than 100% out of 100%.
The nursing staff were exceptionally caring, sympathetic and could not do enough to aid my recovery, always treating me with total respect and dignity. Everyone should be commended for the expertise and dedication.
The treatment received made the experience of coming into hospital for major surgey a little easier to bare.
What could be improved
Unfortunately I have to say that I found the food totally unacceptable and unpalletable which I believe slows down the recovery period. Good food spoilt! In fact the way the food was presented on the plate I felt was not condusive to healthy eating for sick patients.
By the fourth day and having some of my appetite returned, I could not stomach any more of the food as it was making me nauseaus. To overcome the problem my wife brought my meals twice a day.
More pride and care should be taken with the catering. It is letting the hospital down badly.
Anything else?
Parking is a problem, a nightmare in fact. Trying to find a place during visiting times is difficult. My wife +ended up travelling by public transport which as you probably are aware is inefficient. The buses do not seem to run within the time tables.
Each time my wife came to visit, the reception entrance adjacent 'B WARDS' was being used by patients and visitors as a smoking area - not very healthy. Also all the litter, dog ends etc., around the entrance.
"From a medical care point of view..."
