"A very positive experience for both..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

I took my 16 yr old son, who has severe learning difficulties, to have an MRI scan under general anaesthetic. The staff were very kind and patient with my son and went out of their way to make us comfortable. In particular, the anaesthetist took great pains to show my son the equipment and remained calm and patient with him, including him in discussions at all times. We had had a particularly distressing previous experience at another hospital where staff completely ignored my requests and information regarding my son. As a result, I had to watch my son being put to sleep in a very distressed state. This was in stark contrast to our experience yesterday. Many thanks to all the staff at the MRI unit for their respectful care towards my son and myself.

What could be improved

We were asked to arrive at 8.45 but our appointment wasn't until 9.45. May have been easier to arrive later.

We were delighted to read your feedback, as will be our MRI team at the QEII when they get to see it - which we will make sure that they do. We know that they will say that this is the sort of high quality service they aim to provide to everyone - but to see the impact from the perspective of a patient (or in this case their parent) shows its real importance. So thank you for letting us know about your experience at the QEII and the very best to both of you for the future.
