What could be improved

Attended Accident and Emergency with young child. Waited 15minutes at counter while staff had a chat together. Then told would have to wait at least 4 hours to be seen.

How can a department be run like this?

Why is there a 4 hour wait?

There was no evidence of any management present. Staff were plodding around in a daze.

Most of them standing around chatting. If it had been organised properly the whole waitng room could have been cleared in half an hour.

It is a disgrace. I would be ashamed to work there.

I had to give up and drove to Kidderminster Hospital. It was spotlessly clean and I waited there less than 1 hour and was treated with dilligence and proffesionalism.

We are sorry that you did not have the experience that you and we would have hoped for.

Unfortunately Accident and Emergency is a very busy department and patients can experience a wait to be seen by a nurse or doctor. On arrival patients are categorised as to their clinical need depending on the nature of their visit and our aim is to see, treat and discharge patients within four hours.

Although we try to address any concerns raised in this forum, we cannot always fully investigate some issues without more detail. We do encourage patients or relatives to tell us about any concerns they have to enable us to fully address problems. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 073 0510 who will be happy to look into your concerns.
