"Excellent quality of care from all staff..."

What I liked

From the minute I walked through the doors of the Urgent Care Centre, through admission via SAU, subsequent emergency operation , post operative care on Ward 13 to discharge I was totally impressed with the high standards of care and expertise I received from all staff that I had contact with.

The consultant and team not only did an excellent job surgically but also had time for explanations, advice, responding to my queries and generally exchanging pleasantries that make you feel better.

The nursing team at all grades all worked well together, were very professional and showed high standards of nursing expertise but still found time to view each patient holistically and to ensure that emotional aspects of post operative recovery were taken into consideration. The nursing team appear to be very supportive of one another and this then transfers automatically to patient care where no aspect seemed to be 'too much trouble' and each patient could not help but feel important and valued.

The standards were such that I would recommend Ward 13 as an excellent placement for student nurses to experience surgical nursing and to learn not only the physical tasks of nursing but also the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects such as motivation, empathy, reassurance and interaction with patients, relatives and fellow professionals.. Thus producing qualified nurses that are knowledgeable, evidence based practitioners who are a credit to their profession and an asset to the NHS .

The standards of cleanliness were good, the food was good and the bed was comfortable. After care from other disciplines such as physiotherapy, pain management team and social support aspects of recovery were explored also.
