"Frustrating and unacceptable procedures..."

About: Darent Valley Hospital

What could be improved

The procedure for emergency operations. My MIL is 89.5 and before her fall in February was a strong and independent woman, still catching the bus to get her week's shopping. Since breaking her hip and having it treated 'conservatively', after 10 weeks she re-broke it and needs an 'emergency' op to replace her hip joint. She was booked in for 27.4.11 for her emergency op and is still waiting! They have had her on nil by mouth for three days now, each day her operation being cancelled late afternoon leaving her in tears. If she can survive not eating and drinking until her 'emergency' operation is done, she will hopefully start on the road to recovery. All questions are answered with vague non-commital replies. Apparently there is nothing we can do but wait and see her fade before our eyes.

This is unacceptable on so many levels.

Thank you for these comments, which reflect a formal complaint I received today by e mail - I think this may be the same patient (if this is not the case, please contact me using the contact details below). I have initiated an investigation into your concerns, and asked the clinical team to speak to you urgently. Please accept my apologies for the delays and distress caused.
