About: Royal Bolton Hospital

What could be improved

I have no problems with the service at this hospital and I have had to visit 3 times now within the April month. However, I do have a problem with Disabled Car Parking spaces taken by everyone and anybody, with no visible signs of the Blue Badge Parking Permit. When I challenged one driver he ignored me completely and walked away.

After taking my elderly father, who is unable to walk, for several Opthalmic appointments I was not able to park in three different parking areas, but several bays were taken by none Permit Holders.

As I see it the hospital has no income from the parking ticket because it is free parking. If I did this in town the Parking Wardens would gladly write me a fixed penalty parking ticket.

I am sorry to read that you had difficulty parking in a disabled bay on a number of occasions when you visited the hospital, hopefully from my response below you will be able to see that the Trust does take parking seriously and particularly parking for disabled users.

The car park attendant visits the disabled parking areas on a daily basis as part of his duties; he checks all the vehicles parking in the disabled bays are displaying the valid blue badges. If a vehicle does not display a valid blue badge he will issue a warning or a legal notice.

The car park attendant uses a PDA (a hand held device) on which he has recorded all registration numbers of vehicles that have offended within the previous six months. The car park attendant checks each registration number against the PDA and if the registration number is not on the PDA database then the car park attendant will issue a warning, if it is on the PDA database then a legal notice will be issued.

A legal notice is a penalty fine for £50.00 which is reduced to £10.00 if paid within 14 days. Failure to pay will result in a copy of the legal notice being sent the solicitors, who will contact the DVLA to obtain the owners name and address. A letter is then sent from the solicitors acting on our behalf to the owner of the vehicle for payment, the Trust has had a number of cases that have reached County Court for failure to pay a legal notice.

The Trust aims to ensure that the disabled bays are used and available for vehicles displaying valid blue badges only.
