"Very few qualified nurses and constant changes"

About: Sidley Medical Practice

The constant changes and lack of consistency negatively effect my anxiety problems and autism, which is a shame because my actual GP is very nice. Having seen the GP with blocked ears and a terrible earache I was told to take antibiotics and use olive oil and come back to see the nurse to get them syringed in a week. Exactly a week wasn't possible due to the bank holiday, but the day after (Tuesday) was fully booked, so I had to settle for the day after. During that week, the nurse who was doing it changed and then I had a sudden phonecall the day before telling me the new nurse "doesn't do ears". I struggle with changes, especially last minute ones, and was upset due to the constant earache as well and upcoming exams (I'm a student). They would not tell me why my nurse was changed and didn't apologise. Eventually I convinced them to give me one on Thursday, but that still means in total it was 10 days after I had seen the doctor. It also seems that only one nurse does ears, why aren't more qualified for it? Its a common problem and I know many people who have had this done. Now I just need to try to calm down after the massive panic attack due to them not thinking what effect it would have on someone with autism and anxiety and due to only one nurse doing ears... Get more in and please have more thought in future!

Please accept our apologies for the distress caused to you where the practice cancelled your appointment with the nurse at short notice.

The practice is aware of the impact cancelled clinics has on our patients and it is our policy to provide cover where possible.

We will only cancel a clinic if no other option is available.

On the day of your appointment the practice was able to provide cover rather than cancel the whole clinic.

Unfortunately the nurse who covered this clinic is temporarily unable to carry out ear irrigation due to personal reasons.

Unfortunately we were were unable to offer you another appointment the same day as our other nurse clinics were fully booked.

We would be happy to arrange a meeting with our Quality Assurance Manager should you wish to discuss this further.
