"My experience in Pilgrim Hospital"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I got Taken to A&E  after been in pain for last 24hrs, i got seen within 30min, the Nurses where brilliant and doctors where good, apart from the Surgeon. Yes I've suffered from a lot of gynaecologist issues over the years, thats resulted in a few hospital admissions. This pain was like nothing I've felt before, i only came in because my own painkillers weren't helping, so i knew something wasn't right. They thought it was appendicitis, then IBS, then Kidney infection. I explained my coil had fallen out a few days beforehand, and that i had had a high temp. I was given painkillers and Anti sickness due to feeling quite sick and they took bloods, but my bloods were lost so they had to retake my bloods.

I was then moved up to a ward where i was then taken for a CT scan. Then back to the ward where a nurse came in, didn't tell me their name and started asking me a load of question telling i was quite under weight yes i am but i don't need her weighing me when i suffer from bulimia and making me feel so small because of it.
At 1am i was screaming in pain and the nurse told me i had had some pain relief in A&E and i didnt need any. They finally gave me some Paracetamol and medication to treat stomach cramp/pain. Which didn't help at all. By 6am i was in a hell of a lot of pain and they didn't come to me. Finally round 7am ish a nurse came and i said i was in a lot of pain and they said well you shouldn't be as the paracetamol should of worked. I wouldn't of asked if it had. Then 5 male doctors walk into my room and stare at me. One starts asking questions and feeling my belly telling me to calm down how can you calm down when you have had no sleep, food, water and is in pain and have loads of male doctors looking at you when your in a hospital Gown. I asked about my results and was told another doctor would look at them later on.
The nurse looking after me came in and demanded i get dressed as i was been moved to a different ward, they then said i should be able to go home later. I got to the new ward and shown to my bed and no one not even a nurse came over to me till after lunch. I was in so much pain and crying. Finally after my friend had a go at the nurse i got painkillers and they actually came over and spoke to me and told me my bloods results ect.. they said the doctor will come and speak to me. They never did, they sent an unqualified doctor up instead who was very very rude to me. So i said thats it I'm going home i removed my own cannula out of my Arm and told nurse i was leaving. Nurse and health care assistant asked me to stay but by that point i was too upset and angry and panicking and need to go home. Yes i left against medical advice but i couldn't handle staying there anymore. So i left and I'm still in agony but at least I'm round people that care about me.

Dear lmm

Thank you for your feedback left on the Care Opinion website.

I am very sorry that you did not have a good experience whilst you were a patient with us at Pilgrim Hospital

I would like to investigate your concerns in more detail and it is not clear from your feedback which two wards you were admitted to. I would appreciate if you could contact me directly (my details are at the bottom of this reply) or, if you would rather, you can contact the PALS service at the hospital on 01205 446243, or by e-mail at pals@ulh.nhs.uk, and give them your contact details which they will pass on to me. If you do contact PALS, it would be helpful if you could quote reference CO427984

Thank you once again for contacting us, and I look forward to hearing from you so I can share your feedback directly with the wards concerned.

Regards

Sharon Kidd, Patient Experience Manager
