What I liked
The midwife that stayed with me during my labour was very kind and supportive. I especially appreciate the fact that she stayed with me all the way, even though her shift ended half an hour before my baby was born. I had a grade 3b tear and I the theatre staff was amazing. They made me feel safe and cared for which was very comforting since I have never had an operation or even stitches in my entire life! The breast feeding support group was also great.
What could be improved
Previously I've heard that people complain about shift changes. In my case, I had to wait for the theatre staff to get ready. It took 2 hours after my baby's birth before I went to theatre even though I was told that I'm nr.1 on the list. Since I had a bad tear, I was bleeding during my 2 hour wait. I vividly remember how I could feel the blood streaming from my body, but still there was no haste to help me. In the end I lost about 1.5litres of blood which meant I was send home to look after a new baby feeling extremely low. It took me about 5 months before I felt myself again. Now, 8 months later, I still feel traumatised by my experience which will definitely influence our future family planning.
"Apart from my long wait, I was impressed..."
