"A&E experience"

About: University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

I was in A&E overnight Friday 9th Feb. & discharged Saturday am( a total of 18 hours). The department was just as negatively reported on the TV & newspapers, however I was treated professionally, with respect & care. I did experience some time on a trolly in a corridor but at no time were we(the patients) left untreated or ignored. The nurses apologised constantly for the situation which was due to the large number of patients, lack of cubicles & no medical beds for admissions.

It was an 'eye opener ' for me as a retired research nurse to be the 'other side of the bed'. Please relay my thanks to the A&E staff (including receptionists) & give them a verbal pat on the back. They are wonderful.

Gay, thank you for your 4 star rating of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We are delighted to hear about the professional and respectful care you have received at the Emergency Department . Your kind words have been forwarded to the senior staff responsible for the department so they can share them with their team members. Feedback like this is greatly valued as staff love to hear they have made such a positive difference. However, we are sorry to hear that you ended up spending a numbers of hours in the department as it was so busy.
