"Potent obnoxious smell"

When I came to Malham house for my appointment today, on entering I was bombarded with a horrendous flowery chemical smell. This has set off my allergies and respiratory problems and I can't stop coughing. I noticed other people in the waiting room were also uncomfortable. By the end of my session I felt sick and had a headache. I hope this can be taken on board and resolved before my next meeting. Thank you.

P.S. I don't know how your staff can work in this obnoxious environment.

Dear anonymous,

Apologies that its taken quite a while for me to get to the bottom of this issue but I have now managed to share your concerns with one of the estates operational managers.

He advised me that the estates team arrange an annual deep clean of sites with areas that are used or occupied by services users. This is usually areas like clinic rooms, kitchens, receptions, day rooms and residential areas and wards. The contractor carrying out the deep clean must carry out this work to NHS Specifications using NHS recommended products for cleaning.

Estates have advised me that this is the first complaint they have received of this type relating to an odour left following the clean.

However, in response to you raising this issue with us, the estates manager confirmed that he re contacted the contractor to raise this issue and they returned to the site to carry out an additional wash down of the areas with water only to remove any odour that the products may have left behind.

Thank your for raising this issue with us and we will keep an eye to ensure that there is no reoccurrence.

I hope the action taken is satisfactory and apologies for any discomfort you may have felt.
