What I liked
during my care at the hospital I was treated ok by the staff (I am deaf - no hearing aids but have very good speech) Some of the nurses were fantastic and really tried to explain my treatments and so on. I was in a small side ward on my own. some of the doctors who came in were deaf aware and that did help.
What could be improved
the staff being more deaf aware. Some of the murses were good but being in hospital in an unfimiliar environment made me more anxious about trying to contentrate on lipreading. I had a horrible nurse who shouted at me and made me feel like a five year old. I had a blood pressure cuff which gave false readings as it compressed twice instead of once - giving me pain and numbness in my hand. They shouted at me for being a wimp... I complained to the sister and in farness they did take that nurse off me and I did managed the other blood pressure tests.
food wise I am gluten free - and where was the gluten free foods on the lists? Nothing! I starved in there as I could not eat anything that normal people could eat. Why can't the kitchen staff do more for those who are gluten free?
"it was an emergenvy but could have been..."
