"Must Do Better In Some Places"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

What I liked

I liked the pleasantness of the nurses and other hospital staff, who were very friendly.

What could be improved

The waiting time to be taken down to theatre needs to be really improved. The hospital will insist on putting complicated operations first before simpler ones, meaning patients who are having procedures which are fairly quick are having to wait 3-4 hours after the time they are supposed to arrive to be called down to theatre. All this for the sake of "Infection Control", which in my opinion is total nonsense.

Also staff are so rushed off their feet, that sometimes they forget or don't do what they said they were going to do.

Anything else?

I would also like to comment on the MRSA screening procedure that is done a few weeks before every outpatient procedure that is carried out.

To be screened you've got to wait up to 90 minutes sometimes, to have a cotton bud swivled around each nostril. Something that takes only 5 seconds to do. I have suggested to the Pathology Manager to think about implementing an appointment procedure, but of course like most suggestions it fell on deaf ears.
