"My stay in hospital was satisfactory."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

The general cleanliness of the ward was very good. The staff were busy and carried out the observations well.

What could be improved

I think the staff could be more patient-friendly. Nobody talks to the patients other than when they come over with the machine to do blood pressure and temperature. I was in a lot of pain and had to ask for stronger pain killers.

Anything else?

I was disappointed that the consultant did not come to see me after the operation. His registrar did come to tell me that it had been successful and that they had sent the lump off to pathology for analysis.

I was surprised nobody changed my dressing before I went home the day after the operation. I wasn't given any spare dressings and had to contact my GP's surgery on the following Monday to get my dressing changed.

We'll make sure that your comments, both what you found good about your experience and that which you felt could have been done better, is fed back to the teams on our wards. Seeing things from a patient's perspective is always valuable - especially the importance of good communication.
