Having suffered from depression for a long time, I was worried about how I could manage it whilst being pregnant. My midwife referred me to the perinatal clinic at Aberdeen maternity hospital for support. Shona M. who is the perinatal midwife there, was a great help and comfort to me. Shona’s warm personality, understanding and encouragement meant so much at a time of great apprehension and uncertainty. I can honestly say I wouldn’t have coped at all without her guidance and the great service provided by her. Depression is a very difficult illness, and made much harder by being pregnant and having so many changes going on. I feel very privileged to have had the support of the perinatal team throughout my pregnancy, and also afterwards, which is just as important. Every woman with depression should be allowed the support we are blessed with in Aberdeen.
