What I liked

Nursing staff, cleaning staff and catering staff all very freindly.

Nursing staff on Guist ward were very good

What could be improved

follow up care would of been nice. I had Liver biopsy that caused extreme pain and turned a one night stay into an 8 day stay!! It appeared to be dismissed as |"one of those things".

However, even now, 7 months later, the pain still causes a problem, and yet I am told... and I quote "you have just been unlucky"!

I have had no follow up for this at all. I have seen the consultants on a number of occasions since for other treatment, but this constant pain is just dismissed as me being unlucky.

The Catering staff on the ward were very good.... a shame that the quality of the food doesn't match the service!

Likewise with the nursing staff. The care and support they provide is very very good... that said, if there were one or two more on each shift, then maybe they would get a chance to attend to patients without feeling the need to apologise for the delay nearly every time, all because they are pushed to the absolute limit by the workload imposed on them, while trying to work with what appears to be a skeleton staff, especially on their night shift.

It would appear to be a similar story with the Doctors, very high levels of staffing during the day, but at night, if more than one person on the ward is needing attention at the same time, then it becomes a problem.

Anything else?

The only reason that I had this visit was because, unfortunately about 35 years ago I was given contaminated blood products at the N&N hospital in Norwich, which only 10 months prior to this visit was found to of infected me with HCV.

This visit was for a biopsy to try and establish what level of liver damage has been sustained since being infected.

I entered the NNUH feeling fit and well, but this was to change fast.

I have since been in considerable pain, which effects my work (now have to work from home), my sleep is now broken every night because of the pain, and as a result of all this, obviously, I have been quite concerned about if this pain will ever go, or am I stuck with it for life?

The attitude of, "you have been particularly unlucky" does nothing to reassure ones fears!!

The last time I felt "well" was on 27th July 2010, the day before I was admitted to the ward, some people are just unlucky... It's not an attitude that I really think is acceptable in this day and age.
