"Protected mealtimes"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn, NHS Foundation Trust

I have to question the protected mealtimes. Not everyone can live their lives to a schedule, so when you get time to visit your terminally ill Mum and are told you have to wait (whilst being charged exorbitant parking fees) is a kick in the teeth. Every minute is precious and if I could I’d spend every one of them with her, so stop denying people these rapidly disappearing moments

I am very saddened to hear that someone inappropriately applied the ‘protected mealtimes’ guidance in the case of your mother. I am sorry that you have had this additional stress to deal with at such a difficult time. End of life patients should have open visiting with no restrictions. I will share your posting with the End of Life Nurse but if you would wish me to take this further, or to arrange for some additional support for you please do contact me, preferably by email, and I will try and address any difficulties that you have.
