"Long term patients not given a bath or shower..."

About: Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

My mother had been on ward 18 for 4 weeks, and even though we did ask the staff she was never given a bath or shower, patients would feel a lot better if they where clean, especially the long term patients. The staff who change the patients who are incontinent just put dirty clothes in with clean ones, had to throw away 2 pyjama tops coz they looked like they had been used to clean her. It’s disgusting.

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is deeply concerning to read your review of your Mother's care -

I would like to look into the concerns you raise as a matter of urgency. I cannot imagine why staff would ignore your requests and restrict washing to bed baths only over a four week period ? Your description of the poor standards of cleanliness are also extremely worrying and completely unacceptable in any hospital setting.

I'm sure you can appreciate how seriously we take this feedback, due to the anonymous nature of your review I am unable to investigate any further without your mother's details. I'd be very grateful if you would email me, with your mothers consent, at patient.experience@nhct.nhs.uk with her full name, date of birth and home address. This will allow me to access her notes and account for all care provided during her hospital stay.

I do hope your mother is on the mend and I look forward to hearing from you. It's important.

Many thanks indeed for bringing this to my attention,

Annie
