"Emergency Eye Care Relief and a network of support"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

My eye started to go red and I asked to make an emergency appointment at my local health centre (in Clackmannanshire); they referred me instead to my opticians (SpecSavers Stirling). Holly the optician there especially was great; she was very concerned and advised that if things deteriorated before a follow-up appointment the next day I should get it checked out at A&E.

I was able to get an eyedrop prescription using the Minor Ailment Service that day but it did deteriorate and the next morning at 8.30 I was dropped off at A&E at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Unsurprisingly it was quiet and I was registered efficiently by the receptionist and seen in about 5 minutes by a nurse and then a doctor. (They introduced themselves but I was nervous and forgot their names, sorry.)  Both were really good.  I spent some time with the doctor who was really reassuring and knowledgeable, and she wrote down her instructions for me as there were a few steps which I knew I wouldn't remember by the time I got home. I'd gone in really worried and came out much calmer. Two days later I got a follow-up call from Holly at SpecSavers which impressed me as she was obviously concerned about my eye.

I had been initially surprised that I'd been referred to my opticians but everything joined up really well and I've felt really reassured that I'm in good hands.
