I fell in my kitchen and my left hip was very painful. I managed to get to bed but at 2-3 am it was so painful I rang 111. They were helpful, asking if someone could bring me to a&e. I live alone so no. I rang again and they sent an ambulance. I was told the wait time was 7 hours but one arrived very quickly.
Bear in mind I could not put any weight on my left leg. I got to the window to let them know I heard them and I would be slow to open the door. One shouted in an angry fashion you've got to open the door. I managed to get downstairs on my bum and opened the door. I was made to walk to the ambulance and climb the steps drenched in sweat from the pain. At least one went back in the house to get my bag and house keys, but no coat, I was just in my nightie.
At the hospital I had to get down the steps again, it was like they had decided that there was nothing wrong with me, bearing in mind I had reported hip pain, should I have been weight bearing on it. I am 60 years old and female so hip fractures come with the territory. I was sober, rational and polite throughout the ordeal. I was very disappointed with this and made to feel I was faking. My one previous experience of paramedics was of kindness and professionalism. I await your response.
