"My Second Proceedure"

About: Basildon University Hospital / Dermatology

I visited the Dermatology Unit again yesterday after being diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. I had already had this removed in Dec 2017, this was simply a ‘belt and braces’ procedure to remove more of the area to make sure they had got it all.

Because I have this massive medical phobia, I asked if one particular doctor could perfom the surgery again, which she did, as she was one of the phenomenal people who had helped me previously. I was also extremely lucky to have had one particular nurse, who sat on the floor with me and again previously held my hand through the whole procedure. I also had my lovely ‘direct contact’ another particular nurse, who was with me every step of the way.

Their patience, care, attention to my needs and humour got me through this second procedure. To be made to feel unrushed and not pressured when having a phobia is unbelievable. And again this must be part of their every day working lives, yet to me, they will never know just how much their actions have and will always impact me.

To those who complain about waiting times, please consider this; the people who you are waiting to see are sometimes dealing with people like me. They are also dealing with people who have other issues that may slow down the appointment process too. It's not their fault, its not always the patients fault, yet when you get into your appointment that you may have waited 1 or 2 hours for and have the ‘ump’ this will come across to the very people who are potentially working to save your life. Please take a minute before complaining about wait times and seats. Its not the end of the World on either count when those Doctors, Nurses and Consultants are there for one reason only - to help you.

Personally I think ALL Nurses, Doctors and Consultants are angels and are too taken advantage off and are not compensated anywhere near enough for what they do. My experience these staff members is that yet again, THEY ROCK, and my thank you’s to them are totally inadequate.

Thank you so much ??
