What I liked
Most of the medical staff were efficient and professional. Clinically my operation was very successful. The consultant was excellent.
What could be improved
Although I was in a sideward I was directly opposite and in full view of a male patient with whom I had to share toileting facilities.
The food was unappetising and there was little choice. No menu system . I was given very similar meals on the 3 days I was in, called by different names. ie; savoury mince, beef pie(as before but with square of pastry) and cottage pie (as before but with potato on top) For dessert one day I was offered jelly or ice cream(not both ) or a banana. I think I was the last person on the ward the receive my meal therefore with no menu system in place I had to have what was left.
The pain control team were excellent during the day and on weekdays but it seemed to fall apart at weeknd and sometimes at night when what I was given wwhen was variable. Also on discharge everything just stopped without anybodt checking whether I still needed strong pain relief or not.
Anything else?
I had to return to the hospital a few days after discharge and required an X-ray. The staff there were very rough and didnt seem to appreciate that I had had a hip replacement a few days earlier eg I was asked to climb up on to a high trolley and they did not appear pleased when I asked for help.
"Very good in parts"
