"excellent 'service' on all counts"

About: University College Hospital

What I liked

I am a health professional in another London hospital so I am well aware of the pressures staff are under from day to day, and I have no wish to sound condescending!

From the moment we arrived and asked for directions from the reception desk, without exception every member of staff we encountered was courteous and helpful. My mother is 91, and was in a wheelchair.

At the lift we were ushered in, on the fifth floor one of the team saw me struggling with a door and saw me safely through about 4 sets of double doors with a smile and a kind word for my mother (wheelchair users are often ignored!)

In the department the receptionist was welcoming and helpful.

One nurse was an absolute star, taking blood form my mother to save her a queue in the phlebotomy dept!

I sat in the waiting room and was conscious that everyone was being treated with the same cheerful courtesy and respect. The scanner who dealt with us later was lovely. So friendly and patient!

Even the security man who couldn't let me back in after I left (I had gone organise a taxi!) because there was a fire alarm alert was polite and helpful.

What could be improved

From my experience I don't think there were any improvements!

Anything else?

I came away with my faith in human nature restored. It is clear that the ethos of the hospital pervades to everyone.

Thank you for your high recommendation of our Nuclear Medicine service. I was delighted to hear that you found the staff helpful, courteous and patient focussed. This is what we aspire to and it is very pleasing to receive such positive feedback.
