Unfortunately my mum was unwell.
She went to A&E at Hairmyres and was treated with in a very supportive manner by all staff. Discharged after negative diagnostic tests which were timely, my mum went to my sisters to recuperate.
Unfortunately my mum became ill again and she went to A&E where she was timeously assessed by staff and with diagnostic tests. Acute nursing staff attended and escorted her to be assessed for treatment by a consultant via videocam. Given that treatment was time dependent, her assessment was performed promptly, courteously and explained in a manner we could all understand. My mum spent a few days in hospital recovering from what was a stroke. During this time all staff ( medical, nursing, surgical, anaesthetic, outpatient, ward staff, radiography, cardiology, porters, ward cleaners, ward hostesses, mobile shop, paper boy...who have I missed!) were very courteous and friendly, took time to listen and seemed interested.Very prompt contact was made by the stroke team, offering support to my mum and to the family. My mum was to recuperate a couple of days at mine then was assessed in outpatients for carotid endarterectomy. The procedure was done two days later. Risks were clearly explained. Luckily for my mum the procedure , performed by two very capable surgeons with a fantastic anaesthetic team, went very well.Out patient appointments as well as recovery from surgery and a stroke are to follow. Support from the stroke team has again been offered. Our family is very grateful that we could leave my mum in hospital where staff cared for her. It was so very reassuring at a tricky time.Well done to the staff of Hairmyres Hospital. Thank you to each and every one of you who helped us in a very different time over new year.
