"As an older person I was nervous but I..."

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

What I liked

I was nervous about NHS treatment and surgery in particulary having mainly experienced and worked in the private healthcare sector. I need not have worried. Both Uckfield Hospital and EDGH were superb. I was treated with courtesy and professionalism and the environment of Uckfield particularly was spotless, pleasant and could not have been beaten in the private sector. Clearly EDGH is a much bigger hospital but they managed to provide great follow up treatment under obvious pressure of numbers. The staff in the plaster room were endlessly cheerful and interested and made sure I wasn't kept waiting to see the consultant. Big thank you to the NHS - well done.

What could be improved

The building isn't ideal and could do with a little updating but then the treatment is the main thing not the beauty of the environment.

Anything else?

I feel that all too often only the problems in the NHS are highlighted by the press and public. This often has the effect that patients become unnecessarily worried about their upcoming treatment. I wish there was some way that the NHS could blow its own trumpet a little more loudly to provide the public a more balanced view. Its good to give a forum to patients's good experiences not just the bad.
