"Pregnancy"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

During my pregnancy the care I have received has been brilliant. The triage where friendly and very helpful, understanding and explained everything throughly. The community was the same, friendly and helpful staff. The antenatal accessment ward, the staff where very friendly and welcoming.

The only issues I have faced are, I got explained the labour ward and the birthing centre where the same the only difference there was is that the labour ward had doctors on the ward and wasn't midwife lead. My second issue is that when I went for a scan/growth scan the amount of time they give you to see your baby isn't s long time, couple of minutes if that. It's exciting and an enjoyment to be able to see your baby on the scan but there just isn't enough time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our maternity service. It is always good to hear from women that have found our community and antenatal midwives to be friendly and welcoming. I am pleased to hear that you felt that things were explained properly to you during this time.

I'm sorry to hear that you were given what sounds like confusing advice regarding the Birthing Centre and Labour Ward, so I hope that the following explanation helps:

The women who attend our birthing centre and labour ward are always supported throughout their birth by midwives. However, the main difference is that the women who attend labour ward are usually considered to need some support from the medical team.

I agree with you that it is exciting to see your baby on a scan. I have spoken with the sonographers this morning and there are guidelines regarding how long that they can spend scanning during pregnancy. This might explain why you felt that there isn't enough time spent showing you your baby.

I am more than happy to discuss any of your concerns directly, please email me at the address below and once again thank you for your feedback.
