"Care at Hairmyers Hospital, East Kilbride."

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 12)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Hairmeyers Hospital in October, 2017 for four days, after being diagnosed with DVT, presumably from a flight from Australia to Scotland. I was seen in Ward 3 briefly by Dr Lindsay and eventually placed under the care of Dr Vallance. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and caring nature of the nursing staff during my stay. Dr Vallance was very helpful with advice and showed great concern for my welfare when he heard I would need to fly back to Australia at some point. I would appreciate it if you could pass on my sincere thanks to all the staff rostered in Ward 3 during that period.

On Tuesday, November 7th I was sent to Hairmeyers Accident and Emergency dept by my doctor with a chest infection that was diagnosed as being Pneumonia. I was seen very promptly by a male nurse, name of Joe who took bloods and arranged other tests and CT scans and X-rays. I was seen by a young lady Doctor whose name I didn't catch unfortunately, but once again I was most impressed by the professionalism of everyone in A & E that day. Even one Ambo recognised my voice and inquired after my brother, whom he had transported to hospital some days earlier. Amazing.

I am now back in Australia and continuing my treatment for DVT and some side effects of Pneumonia, ie a collapsed lung. I would like to thank all those at Hairmyers who were involved in my care and also those who cared for my brother, Thomas over the 12 months or so he spent in and out of your hospital. I wish all your staff a very happy, safe and prosperous New Year, and thanks again.

Dear arieskr45

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your recent experiences of University Hospital Hairmyres. Your visit to Scotland certainly appears to have been an eventful one. I will indeed pass on your thanks to the ward 3 team and of course those that you have mentioned in person. I am so pleased to hear that you found staff to be caring and professional.

To then return again in November must of been a worrying time for you. Again I will share your comments with the team and staff involved. They will be delighted to hear that their care made a difference. It does sound like both you and your brother made an impression on staff and I would like to thank you both for that. It is important for staff to receive feedback and we are all so pleased to hear that you are recovering well.

After such a difficult couple of months it really is appreciated that you have taken the time to write to us. On behalf of all the team I would like to wish you a Happy New year and hope that you continue your journey of recovery. Let's hope any future visit to Scotland is a more settled one for you.

Best wishes to you and your family and thank you again for your comments.

Kind regards, Lise
