"A & E VISITS"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital / Accident and emergency

I have unfortuneatly had to visit A &E 3 times by ambulance over the Christmas period. Ambulance crew on each occasion have been absolutely fantastic. The first 2 times i wad admitted to ward 2 which was very well run although was concerned as to how they found a bed at 3am - was hoping and praying that someone hadnt been discharged at that time.

I was admitted in agony with chest pain and tests showed some concerns over my heart function. The first doctor i saw should not be a doctor. He had no people skills at all and when asking me questions was mumbling and looking at the wall.

Nurses great but rushed off their feet. I appreciate the hard work and pressures our NHS face as i work in the medical profession myself.

I would like to highlight the appalling treatment on the 3rd visit.

I was taken to hospital by ambulance again with severe chest pain and concerns over my heart and the fastness of my heart.

On arrival at A &E i was still on the ambulance trolley for half hour due to department being busy. I felt for the paramedics as i needed to be moved so they could continue their duties

Eventually i was transferred to some chairs in a corridor and left there in agonising pain and feeling like i was about to collapse. Surely this isnt the right treatment for someone with chest pain. After what seemed like forever probably about half hour i was taken to a cubicle, no one did ecg again so that was way over hour and half since paramedics did last one. They put a cannula in my veins and gave me high dose of morphine for pain. After 5 mins of morphine going into my veins i was told to go back to the chairs.

I couldnt walk was sick and felt like i was dying but left on the chairs for hours.

No one came to check on me, i mentioned to someone passing that i thought i was having some sort of reaction to drugs as my face was swelling and i was itching all over - no one came to investigate they just left me.

After 5 hours and an inexperienced doctor who didnt listen to me and had to keep asking someone else for advice i chose to go home and hopefully not die.

I understand chest pain to be serious and i wouldn't treat a dog the way i was treated. I understand the department is busy and alot of people do waste nhs time. I was polite and couteous and grateful all through my treatment and visits but sadly wasnt treated the same by doctors and the department.

I am now at home waiting for urgent tests on my heart and very anxious and concerned that if my pain is bad again i am told i have to go back to A & E, hopefully that wont happen

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences about our inpatient wards and our A&E service. We are very sorry to hear that your recent visit to A&E was not as you should have expected.

We do take feedback very seriously and would like to discuss this with you if you were willing to do so. It is with such feedback that we can learn and improve therefore could you please make contact with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service ( PALS) on 01908 995954 or via email on PALS@mkuh.nhs.uk. Feedback is also shared with the relevant departments and wards. Once again we appreciate the time taken to feedback on your care. We look forward to hearing from you.
