"I am disappointed and hurt by my treatment "

About: University Hospital Lewisham / Maternity care

I was suffering from severe pain during my pregnancy because of fibroids in the lining of my womb, and the further on in my pregnancy, the pain became worse. I was admitted to Lewisham hospital for pain relief and monitoring.

Whilst I was there, I was denied pain relief by a very rude nurse, even though the medication was listed on my file. I was stabbed really hard with a syringe by the same nurse in the middle of my evening meal, and was talked about by some other nursing staff... in fact, I heard some of them them say nasty things about other patients at night, when they thought everyone was asleep.

There was a lot of noise at night through loud conversations, laughing and banging...which considering there are a lot of pregnant women in pain and discomfort and already suffering from lack of sleep, I thought this was very inconsiderate.

On top of all of this, I found the food to be of a very, very poor quality.

I complained to one of the midwives about the treatment I received, although I should have complained formally. When I went back a month later to have my baby, the same nurse was overly nice, courteous and helpful...? But this did not make up for the way they and others behaved previously. It is just not good enough, I've been working and paying into the system since the age of 16 and this was my first child. Although I'm very disappointed and hurt, I try very hard to put it to the back of my mind.
