What could be improved

This report is about a gentleman who is 84 years of age and who had already discharged himself from the Manor Hospital 3 times due to neglect, abuse and dangerous practice.

All he needed was oxygen at home. He did not wish to return to the the Manor, clearly. Clinic confirmed call out doc. could organise this. Visiting doc. persuaded the patient to go in to Manor, providing letter that he should go straight to ward, to avoid being left in cold hospital corridor all night long without so much as a warm drink, agian. Ward full.

I found the patient just inside the main ambulance doors which were open on a freezing cold night, with oxgen mask and no covers over him. He has ozone gas poisoning, which causes hardening of the lungs which is progressive, but he was left in this position of danger and cruelty whilst doctors suspected pneumonia.

I covered him. I told staff that they were not leaving him there. They said they had nowhere else to put him. There was a girl in a wheelchair, helpless and in tears behind him. I filmed the situation and I took a photograph. Staff then tried to get me to leave and I refused. I repeated that they were not leaving the patient there. Shortly after the camera flash, one nurse whispered to another that a bay was free. The patient was now sufficiently warm and safe. I was threatened re photos taken.

MAU good, but patients continually moved around in middle of night = lack of rest. Then to ward 6? Moved in the middle of the night, left in dark alone. Had to connect his own oxygen! One mad was moved '7' times.

Anything else?


Not being listened to, being forced to take meds that he told them would make him sick and it did.

Oxygen given, then oxygen levels recorded as normal. False! Prevented breathing team organising oxygen at home. GP has now sorted this

Meds witheld altogether, or being given at wrong time.

Bubbles injected into arm - severe bruising - have photo.

Being overdosed on Presnisolone 25mg plus injected with hydrocortisone 200ml!, all against patient's wishes, experience and better judgement, causing patient to be bed ridden at home in agony.

Doctors in dirty clothes no white coats. One fully trained nurse to 16 patients prevents advocacy and suitable care being possible. Nurse not present with doctor causes communication problems. Little continuity of care with doctors. Large communication problems in shift changeovers, instructions not passed on whilst patient is 'still' waiting for care, access to nebeuliser.


Better off at home, in own bed with dignity and free from abuse.
