We visited A&E at Forth Valley Royal Hospital on the advice of NHS 24 re a worsening of my daughter's asthma symptoms, even though I had stated that I felt that an out of hours GP app was more appropriate.
The desk staff were lovely. The triage nurse however was not. Although their words were appropriate their attitude was very much that we were wasting their time. Before even examining my daughter they told me that they would try to get her an out of hours appointment as they are very busy. The nurse wasn't able to do so, so took my daughter's stats which were admittedly fine although her peak flow was at 75% of normal. They then stated "you'll have to wait for a Dr here, it will be at least 4 hours because there are very sick people out there. If you think you want to take her home just tell the desk staff".
This nurse was dismissive and quite frankly rude in their attitude. This is not the first time we have seen them and their attitude was poor that time as well. I was at A&E on the advice of NHS staff, I'm not a panicking mother, I'm not trying to waste their time, I'm just trying to make sure my child is okay.
I don't expect to be treated like an inconvenience or a time waster.
