After having numerous problems with breastfeeding my son, the infant feeding team at the maternity hospital and my health visitor decided I would benefit from seeing a breastfeeding support specialist. When referred, I waited 3 weeks for a response to then be told there was no capacity to see me. I was so looking forward to meeting this specialist and getting the help I needed, and felt completely frustrated and let down, and also very upset. My health visitor then tried to get in touch with the bf specialist in aberdeenshire who didnt respond. My problems have since persisted and escalated, my very helpful health visitor has had to come up with a plan (with formula top ups) so my son doesnt lose any weight. I feel very disappointed in the lack of care and very anxious regarding my sons weight. I want to breastfeed my son and it has been encouraged from midwives etc since my first booking appointment, but coming across lots of problems it is evident there is a lack of specialist support and expertise mums need.
