"Extremely kind and supportive at this difficult time."

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as a relative),

My father developed severe sepsis and was taken to Wishaw General by paramedics Alistair and Victoria. Their prompt care gave my father a fighting chance.

On arrival in A&E he was cared for by an outstanding group of medical and nursing staff. Dr James Woods and the consultant Tariq.  My dad was in the resuscitation room for several hours whilst they stabilized him and was expertly looked after by Staff Nurse Lauren with input from many others to numerous to mention.

Dr Tom French saw him in the resus room before he moved to MHDU and had the necessary but extremely difficult conversation with my brother and I I regards to what we wanted as a family in the event my father did not respond to treatment. Dr French was extremely kind and supportive at this difficult time.

In MHDU he continued to have outstanding care by SCN Miller and her team. All the staff including the new student nurse were caring, compassionate and kind. Offering cups of tea and kind words I also witnessed the compassion they showed to other families who were with loved ones.

The open visiting was a godsend as my brother works in St Andrews and I work shifts. My father has 4 grandaughters so we set up a group chat on our phones so that we could all visit for short periods without all being there at the same time. Open visiting allowed this to happen.

My father is now in ward 7 where he continues to receiving outstanding nursing care. Kirsty who has recently just qualified along with CSW Ann and Liam who has been  on night duty.

All the staff have been excellent.

Dear JKSE

Thank you very much for getting in touch and for your comments in relation to the care your father received whilst an inpatient here at University Hospital Wishaw, and indeed at such a worrying time for you and your family. I indeed hope that your father is recovering well and his health will continue to improve.

Your positive comments are very welcome and I will ensure they are fed back to the staff in A&E, MHDU and Ward 7, who work so hard in ensuring the care we deliver to patients is of a high standard, as well as being compassionate to the families of our patients.I have no doubt they will be delighted for the feedback.

I am also delighted you have found the benefits of our open visiting.

Thank you once again and best wishes to your father

Kind Regards

Faith
