"Disorganised"

About: Ealing Hospital / Gynaecology

I was admitted to A and E and diagnosed with sepsis. A and E provided excellent care. They immediately gave me very strong antibiotics. I was in agonising pain and I was given morphine, codeine and other painkillers to keep me comfortable.

When I was moved to the ward (gyno due to stomach aches) , the nightmare started. I was still in terrible pain , but all the strong painkillers were immediately withdrawn and swapped for...paracetamol.

I was in agony. Apparently, no doctor was available for hours to prescribe morphine.

I had fever, but I had to drag myself out of bed to go and beg for the laughable paracetamol that was overdue. When my condition deteriorated they organised a transfer to Northwick Park. I was officially discharged in the early afternoon and my treatment stopped. The transport was not coming. I finally got moved in the late evening, but by then I missed my antibiotics and was not receiving any painkillers or liquids and was feeling very poorly. Before that, they had scanned my sinuses but had no ENT to analyse the images (fair enough) , so they explained to me they needed to transfer me to another hospital which had

ENT ward. However, when they sent me to Northwick Park, they referred me to the wrong ward. To top it up, they also asked for the wrong specialist to analyse my scans. The unnecessary delay worsened my condition even further. Northwick Park hospital were very confused , but worked extremely hard to sort the whole mess out. I am grateful to Northwick Park as they took very good care of me. As for Ealing Hospital, the level of care was poor. The gyno ward came across as disorganised, not really taking into account what the patient was saying, with too many referral mistakes , plus they don't know the difference between a maxio facial and ENT which is rather scary.

Despite all that,

I highly recommend the A and E - excellent, prompt and very knowledgeable doctors.

I am sorry that you had such a poor experience, but glad you let me know. I have passed your comments on to the team. Please contact the PALS team on 0208 967 5653 or LNWH-tr.ehPALS@nhs.net if you would like us to follow up on this for you.

May I also take opportunity to thank you for taking the time to give us this lovely feedback. It is very heartening to hear when we do get things right and reassuring to know that the Emergency Department were prompt, knowledgeable and excellent.

Kind regards
