What could be improved
In a nutshell Everything it was a nightmare start to finish-would take me far too long to catalogue everything but i have an over active thyroid which with my second child born May 2009, we had to stay in for longer than expected due to blood levels, s i was expecting to have to do this again. firstly i would like to say to any expectnat mother who has been welcomed to the hospital and sat down and gone through a care plan and also a birthing plan- do not bother or waste your time as the nursing staff are not interested in your wants or wishes when the time comes and dont bother asking for the birthing pool to be filled even though it may be in the room you are being examined in, because as they told me " oh we havent got time to mess about filling that we are far to busy, but it is in my birthing plan, that caused a giggle" that was in 2009. i am today in walsall maternity unit having been taken to primrose ward on thursday 20th Jan 2011. i have to say that my stay to date has been a nightmare, as the nursing staff have no consideration for patients or their request. my first night with my daughter i rang the bell in the night for a sterile bottle, go and get one yourself i was told we dont wait on you. and please bear in mind if you are not breast feeding that the Manor hospital maternity unit do not provide feeds or food for baby' s and you can only use the SMA gold liquid food in cartons, i gave birth at 23.50hrs and went to give my baby a feed i was told oh you have to bring your own food in we dont provide it, so i asked my mom if she would go to my house and my tin of baby food, to which the midwife said oh you cant bring that in we have no where for you too make it up , when i asked what i was supposed to do her reply was go down Tesco 24hr supermarket and get some, by this time it was 2am and i had to ask my mom who is disabled to go and get food for my baby. i was not told of this before i went in and i was gobsmacked as was my family.
Anything else?
now i cannot get to sleep as the staff are outside my room in the kitchen laughing and joking i have aksed them to please be quiet and they replied well we cant move the kitchen. they have pricked my babys foot 3 times to date knowing that the lab is closed as it is the weekend and it keeps congealing why not wait until they can use it. instead of causing the baby discomfort unneccesarily.i was told today by a doctor that i could go home tomorrow monday as my thyroid is ok as i havent taken any tablets since nov and my levels are fine, so the baby should be ok as she is fine in everyway, and i dont mind waiting till she has the all clear, but nurses take pleasure in coming in and telling that im going nowhere till at least tuesday. my stay at the Manor has spolit my happiness at having a daughter after two boys previously, if i ever have another baby it will never be anywhere near the Walsall Manor hospital.Noise levelsOpening hoursServiceDoctorsNursing staffCare plansOveractive thyroidPatient careBirthing poolMaternityWater birthAnti-rheumatic drugsConsiderateFoodMidwife
