"Amazing Coordination from a Great Team"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Radiology Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was recently sent by my GP to the BGH acute assessment unit, suffering from chest pain and breathing difficulties.

I would just like to say a big thank you to the doctors and nurses and also to all the other staff who were involved - and who also deserved a big round of applause

First of all, the lovely and caring paramedics who delivered me by ambulance, laboratory staff who carried out the blood results, radiology for the x-rays and pharmacy for the medication: all these produced in double quick time.

Thank you also to the porter who pushed the wheel chair along seemingly endlessly miles of corridor, to the gentleman who appeared with a sandwich (very welcome)  and to the lady who followed on with a tea trolley, also very much appreciated.

Amazing coordination from a great team.

Thank you to everyone.

Dear belindabravo,

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us of your experience in our Acute Assessment Unit. This is a relatively new service for the BGH and aims to provide timely assessment, investigations, diagnosis and management for patients referred for review from their GP. I am so glad that we were able to do this in your case and reassure you in relation to your chest pain and breathlessness.

I'm also really glad that you mentioned the rest of the team without whom, high quality care could not be delivered! Our wonderful Scottish Ambulance Service do a marvelous job safely delivering patients to us at the hospital (and often taking them home again!), while our diagnostic services such as radiology are incredibly accomodating and helpful. Additionally, our pharmacy team work very closely with us and are an intergral part of patient care at the front door. Finally the often unsung heros in our amazing portering staff and domestic team who bring smiles to many faces, patients and staff alike! What you have highlighted in your story is that the delivery of care to each individual patient requires a team approach and no individual member is any more important than any other!

Thank you so much again for telling us of your experience and I assure you that I will forward your story to all of the team members who I know will be very grateful that your experience was so positive! I hope that you have now fully recovered from your acute illness.

Best wishes,

Lynn
