"Injuries after a car crash"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Physiotherapy Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was involved in a 60mph car crash back in August, and I still have lots of pain in one specific part of my knee, numbness in another area of my knee and lots of pain (which is STILL keeping me up at night) in my shoulders. I was taken to the Lincoln hospital in an ambulance after the crash (which wasn't my fault at all). The paramedics that came to my aid were fantastic and a huge credit to the NHS. If it wasn't for them keeping me laughing and their fantastic people skills I think I would have been an emotional wreck.

I got to the hospital and was treated very well and sent home with a fracture clinic appointment. I have had 4 fracture clinic appointments. The first one was with a very caring, very helpful doctor who just wanted to do everything they could to help and they made me feel very at ease and like they would do all they could to get me back to full fitness. They referred me straight to physio for my knee injury and the whiplash I sustained in the crash.

The second, third and fourth appointments at the fracture clinic have been with 3 different doctors. These 3 doctors did not seem to care or want to do anything to help me. The second one sent me for an MRI scan on my knee and when I mentioned the pain in my shoulders they said they were not interested in that. The third doctor would not give me any painkillers and basically told me I'd have to put up with the sleepless nights and just rest and the fourth doctor told me that there is no medical reason why I am in so much pain so there was nothing they could do for me.

Luckily a week ago my GP prescribed me some strong painkillers to help me get some sleep at night.

I am very unhappy with the three doctors that didn't seem to care. I appreciate that they are busy and the NHS is stretched but I have now been off work for over 3 months as I can't complete my job and still cannot walk properly and have been told there's nothing that can be done and there is no medical reason why I still have the pain? I'm no doctor, but, even I know that your body is not supposed to take such a large impact and the pain I am in is not imaginary! I suffer every day because of someone else's mistake on the road and the people that we put our trust in to help sort out the injuries do not seem to care.

I must however stress that the physios I have seen, and continue to see, are fantastic, and very caring, but as its NHS, its once every 3 weeks (which again I completely understand) and even though I am following everything they tell me to, improvements are very slow.

As I said previously, I understand that the NHS is stretched and the doctors are busy but I have seen four different doctors, had four different opinions and even got discharged by the clinic when I was still in lots of pain and still struggling with the injuries. I believe I have been discharged again, even though I continue to be in constant pain. Lets hope my GP is more willing to help with my injuries as only one out of the four doctors i have seen at the hospital seemed to care or want to do anything. A negative experience, mentally and physically, made more negative by the lack of help or care.
