"Koala unit North Manchester and A and E"

About: Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

We had a bit of a scare with our 1 year old daughter who came in struggling to breathe. First of all the children’s A and E was majorly over stretched but every member of staff had a smile on their face. The nurse who said they were newly qualified was brilliant. They noticed how unwell our baby was and made sure we were kept calm while they stabilised her. We remained on the koala unit for three days and they were also brilliant. Always so positive and great with our baby. You could tell they were very understaffed but I never heard any morning or negativity. The student nurses were a credit to the ward. My only criticism would be that the night staff were very loud but they were again very lovely. Thank you to the koala unit you made a very scary and horrible time a lot more bareable and you made our baby better xxx

Thank you for sharing your experience at what must have been an extremely worrying time.

I am pleased to learn of the care, communication and empathy you received during your time in the Children’s A and E department and Koala Unit.

I will share your observations regarding the noise at night on the Koala Unit with the management team.

The staff from those areas will be delighted to learn of the positive experience you had.

Regards,

Head of Patient Experience
