"Breast Unit"

About: St James's University Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

Today was my first ever operation, so fair to say I was pretty nervous. However, my nerves were setled when I was put under the care of the staff on Ward J23.

Everyone was so helpful and lovely, my consultations (paperwork) were carried out by Andrea Henson (I’m not sure if that’s the correct surname, she had short brown hair), who chatted to me like a friend but also maintained a professional outlook and fully explained the paperwork well. The anaesthetist also detailed everything so I understood exactly what was happening and the side effects of anaesthesia, of which I started shivering when I woke up. Once I was on the opersting bed, the anaesthetists assistant explained to me everything that was about to happen and started making general coversation whilst the anaesthesia was been prepared.

After the operation, all the staff were so caring and gentle with me. It is obvious that they take pride in their work and enjoy caring for their patients. I was offered food and drinks multiple times by the lovely dinner lady, who also treated the other patients in the room like her friends and was conversing with them. I am not sure on the name of the lady who looked after me for the rest of the day, however she was quite young with gingerish/light brown hair tied up in a bobble and I was in the ward from half 11 to around half 3 on Friday 24th November.

All I can say is a massive thank you to all the staff on Ward J23 (Breast Unit) at St James, it has relieved as I will be undergoing operations several times and I am pretty excited to see the staff again, even if they aren’t the same people. I felt safe and well looked after and they made my experience as pleasant as possible and do not have any worries to go back.

Thank you.

Dear FS

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us with your wonderful and kind comments.

I am very happy to read that we the care you received throughout your stay with us was efficient and professional but also caring and gentle.

I have taken the liberty of sharing your words of support and encouragement with the matron for Ward J23 and asked that this is shared with all the team. I know that all the staff will be delighted to know they delivered the care and service that met all your needs and expectations.

Once Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write to us.

With kindest regards

Rosie
