"I benefited a lot from the sessions"

About: Hammersmith and Fulham Talking Therapies

(as a service user),

I attended the IPT course for a period of 12 session, each one being 50 minutes long. The spread of time have me the confidence to explain the "why as well as the what" were causing my depression. The Therapist was very professional gently helping me to focus on my issues. I didn't feel she was judging me but creating chances for me to think through various comments I was making.

I benefitted a lot from the sessions. My only negative comment is the long time it took to receive the therapy - From January 2017 to July 2017.

I had received 6 sessions lasting 30 mins each with a CBT from november 2016 - January 2017 which was helpful but not nearly sufficient. It was this therapist who suggested I needed to see an IPT Therapist. So, what I am saying is that I am grateful for the help I have received but would have appreciated it more if it has happened nearly a year ago.

Dear castorhr93,

Many thanks for posting your feedback here. I am delighted to hear that you found the IPT sessions were what you needed and that the earlier CBT sessions were also helpful. It is also fantastic to hear how the therapist came across when you were in the sessions. It is very good to hear that they were professional and not judging you but providing you with space to reflect.

However, I am so sorry that you had to wait such a long time between the two types of treatment. In the last year the demand for our services has been increasing and that has led to an jump in our waiting times. We know it can be very difficult having to wait for months and it is something we are taking very seriously. Within our team a working group has been setup to reduce waiting times and they have attended training to help with this over the past six months. We are starting to see results and in the last 3 months our waiting times are now reducing for the first time in over a year. But the work isn't finished and we know there is much more to be done.

It is so useful to hear from you and I will pass this onto the waiting list working group.

Thanks again,
