What I liked

The level of care was exceptional, from the anaesthetist & surgeon to the staff in recovery, from the cleaning & support team to the nursing staff on D44. Nothing was ever a problem. Staff in every instance were polite and shared an excellent working relationship, as well as the requisite sense of humour! I was astonished at the tremendous care that was taken, not only of patients directly, but also in the cleanliness of the ward, which is a credit to those who work there. Despite D44 being a main surgical orthopaedic ward, and therefore extremely busy, nursing staff ensured that each patient's needs were addressed. I was also most impressed by the attention to detail on the part of the consultant surgeon and his team. Their visits were greatly appreciated, as was their willingness to explain the detail in terms that even I would be able to understand! The surgery is proving to be a great success due to the skills and capabilities of the team at Sunderland Royal.
