"Death of my mum"

About: General practices in Lothian St John's Hospital / Respiratory Medicine

(as a relative),

My mum had copd for many years.

And coped reasonably well for a while with an inhaler.

As time went on she had chest infections more often.

She was never given any other support for her copd.i understand NICE is supposed to be followed.

This year my mum had been to her doctor numerous times as her cough was so bad she was losing sleep.yet another inhaler.no help at all.

My mother died in September.

She had spent a month in hospital after being admitted to hospital with pneumonia.

While there they discovered she also had lung cancer.

She was recovering from the pneumonia and the plan was to send her home to regain some strength before having radiotherapy.

Unfortunately her lung collapsed and then she had a chest infection.

She was too weak to carry on.

The hospital were amazing.

Her gp told her the few weeks before she ended up in hospital that her chest was clear.

Total lack of care from gp.

My mum had cancer and pneumonia and her doctor couldn't see she had anything wrong. They didn't even notice my mum's weight had changed drastically.

Dear Sadladyjh

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and l am so sorry to read what has happened to your mum, please accept my condolences to you and your family at this sad time.

It sounds as though this has been a really difficult and distressing time for everyone. I have shared your feedback with the team at St John's Hospital and I was pleased to read that you found the hospital staff to be amazing.

I am sorry to read that you did not find your mum's GP to helpful and l am sure that they would want to hear this feedback so that they can consider ways to make improvements in the GP Practice and for other patients. If you feel able, you may wish to contact your mum's GP directly to let them know about your experiences with you mum.

Once again, please accept my condolences at this time.

Kind regards

Jeannette
