"Quite a good hospital but a few flaws..."

What I liked

I was refferred to A&E at stoke-manderville from Wycombe hospital where there is no longer A&E services as I had had really bad stomach cramps and pains. I was sent to A&E and quite quickly seen by a nurse to assess my condition (I think this was sped up because I was clearly in severe pain) I was then put on the general surgery ward with suspected appendicitis. I was treated fairly well here by the HCAS, nurses and Drs on the general surgery ward. However there were sometimes mix-ups and stuff clearly hadn't been written down or read properly (maybe beacuase the staff were so busy and over worked?!) about my condition/when it began and what it could be related too. However drs were throrough and I was seen by numerous consultants from different depts (eg: gnaecology and bowel specialists)

I was sent for an x-ray, the HCA took me and prepped me for it, he was very kind and understanding as was the woman x-raying me. I was then diagnosed with an internal blockage and sent back to the general surgery ward so they could keep an eye on me. I was given several supposerties to try and get me to 'go' to no avail. Staff on this ward were too busy to keep an eye on me and I was just giving morphine and told to basically keep trying. I was then taken up to a brilliant ward were I was put in a private room that was clean and niceley decorated with an en-suite which was good with the condition I had. I was looked after quite well and 90% of the staff on this ward were great, including the sister and a trainee nurse. I was given an enema but all the time was treated with care and dignity. The doctors and nurses didn't always seem to match up what was going on though which delayed me being 'fixed' as I could have got better much quicker than I did!

What could be improved

More doctors? It seemed there was a severe shortage and the drs seemed to 'faff around' a bit rather cutting to the chase and treating the problem. I also think there could have been more staff around in A&E and more nurses in the general surgery ward.
