About: Pembury Hospital

What I liked

Comfortable bed in Ruth Ward, lovely consultant some of the nurses were great. In and out in a day when it was expected i'd be overnight.

What could be improved

Was on early admission but not actually seen for my laparoscopic procedure until half 2 in the afternoon. This was my first ever operation and i was so nervous and scared yet my friend was kicked out at 9am because the nurse said it might annoy other people who are resting after the procedures..yet by the time i had mine, it was visiting time and the ward was full of people..i didn't get much rest! After my friend was kicked out, i was asked loads of questions that i had already answered at my pre-consultation but the paperwork haden't been sent over. After i was given my stockings and gown etc i was left completely alone until just before the op. For my first operation this was horrible to not be checked on once between about 10am and half 2 and made my experience much worse, I'm quite young (21) and was possibly having an ovary removed, i did not appreciate being told by the nurse..' Wow you're young to be losing that!' The procedure went well, the nurse and doctors put me at my ease talking to me until i went under but it all went bad again when i woke. Being in a different room and groggy, a little attention would have been nice but the nurse attending me just stood chatting to another nurse occasionally looking at me but no conversation whatsoever. Back on the ward, a new and very lovely nurse was working who made me feel great, let me sleep then made toast and tea, asking how i felt and staying with me for quite a while to make sure i was okay. My consultant then came down and told me the op went great, explained it all to me (including showing pictures!) and was generally lovely, especially when they said i could go home that day!

Anything else?

Pembury is a bit hit or miss, it all depends on who is dealing with you, some are lovely and actually care whereas for others, it's obviously just a job and one their not very good at! logo
