What I liked
I've been unlucky enough to have 4 retinal detachments in the last few months, each requiring surgery. The Retinal team is fantastic - professional, caring, easy to communicate with, and supportive. Two detachments occurred at week-ends, and the Consultant came in to carry out surgery to avoid any loss of vision. Although I felt guilty at them having to attend out of hours, I wasn't made to feel a nuisance - indeed, quite the opposite. The doctor's enthusiasm is well known.
I was given full information at every stage, and I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm comforted to know that the surgeon has done their best, and will continue to do so. The encouragement and support to keep going has given me the courage to face the next hurdle.
In summary, I feel the treatment I received was so good that I almost feel obliged to pay for it!
Well done Ophthalmology - a great team.
What could be improved
A minor issue relating to nursing care in Recovery which could have been better - I was left to shiver for at least 10/15 minutes having forewarned the Anaesthetic team that I respond in this way after a general anaesthetic. That wasn't monitored - and there were only two patients in Recovery at that time, so it wasn't a resource issue. Eventually I was put in the "heated bag" - heaven.
"Fantastic service from Ophthalmology,..."
